Learning Pool’s Hang Ten with Nigel Paine and Rob Lauber

Introducing Learning Pool’s ‘Hang Ten’

We know that the impact of the recent global pandemic and the uncertainty that surrounds it is putting strain across all areas of business, and that includes Learning & Development. Thus inspiring Learning Pool’s ‘Hang Ten’ series.

This video series will consist of informal five-minute chats and will give you a great opportunity to feel connected to others in the industry and gain a rare glimpse into their day-to-day lives. Sharon Claffey Kaliouby will be hosting the series and will be joined by a number of learning professionals to discuss how they are in general and how they’re coping with the current climate.

For series 22, Sharon was joined by two former Chief Learning Officers – Nigel Paine and Rob Lauber. During this Hang Ten, they discuss what they’ve been up to during the pandemic and share their advice on how to advance your career in L&D.

This year, Nigel has been working with organizations to develop more of a learning culture as well as L&D executives to help them frame what they want out of their learning team. His advice was ‘be ambitious, discomforted and always ask for help’.

On the other hand, Rob’s been working with startups, guiding them on how to connect with learning organizations and businesses particularly in a post-pandemic world, and how they need to position their products and services. Rob’s advice was to ‘always look for opportunities, against what we’re doing and could be doing to drive a business further’.

Join Sharon, Nigel and Rob at our next hybrid event

Both Nigel and Rob will be rejoining Sharon for a ‘fireside chat’ on the 12th of May, where they will dissect what the role and responsibilities of a CLO actually entail, as well as the profile of a CLO and how to achieve this C-suite position. The big question being ‘how does the CLO respond and manage in these unprecedented times?’

What is a Hang Ten?

According to the Wiki dictionary, a Hang Ten is ‘a surfing maneuver in which a surfer stands and hangs all his or her toes over the nose of the board.’ It’s a maneuver all surfers want to achieve on a longboard and requires great skill and expertise. At Learning Pool, a number of our innovative products are very water-driven, we have our LXP Stream, Waves, Rapids, and Flo.  We also work with some of the most impressive client companies,  so we thought this idea fit perfectly.
