The Challenge

Leigh Academies Trust (LAT) needed a consistent approach to professional development across a geographically-dispersed workforce.

The ethos of LAT is about shaping lives and transforming communities, with a boundless ambition for students so that they can achieve the best in their lives. The only way the trust can achieve that is by equipping staff across the trust with the right knowledge and skills.

With the current challenges around staff recruitment, the trust needed to make sure its staff had access to the best possible learning and development. They provide all of their staff – not just teachers – with access to courses on safeguarding and health & safety and the LMS allows the trust to target e-learning to certain groups of professionals who would otherwise have little time to undertake training.

A flexible, trust-shaped solution

Every multi-academy trust has the same challenge – all have geographically-dispersed workforces to varying degrees, but all share a common aim of wanting their schools and staff to consistently deliver the same quality of education across a trust.

Having a platform which can be easily rolled out across the trust, which allows leaders to track and monitor the progress of staff in their professional development, is a benefit to any multi-academy trust. Without that, schools within a trust would operate as they always have – in silos, with no joined-up and consistent approach.

Richard Taylor, Director of Human Resources at Leigh Academies Trust, explains more:

“We’ve had a great experience of working with Learning Pool so far. The learning consultants have helped us to deliver the LMS across the trust, but also inspired our thinking around the way that we do things. They’ve challenged us to think of new ways of approaching our tasks and have come up with creative solutions – as well as helping us create something which is visually and aesthetically pleasing for staff to engage with.”

“We’re working in partnership with Learning Pool – we take issues and challenges to the learning consultants and they come back with creative solutions. Without them we wouldn’t have been able to get as far as we have as quickly as we have.”
