Australia-based Obvious Choice is the innovators behind Thrive, the world’s first Learning Playlist Platform. Their approach to client projects is simple – work collaboratively to ensure learning and performance solutions are evidence-based, data-driven and capable of producing insights. Since 2014, Obvious Choice has been using the open-source edition of Learning Locker® as a repository for xAPI activity statements.

Their Learning Playlist Platform supports structured, on-demand and reflective learning. Core functionality enables users to easily and quickly share knowledge, learn just in time using search and star rate/comment on the usefulness of resources loaded in the library.

Solution

To support client requirements, Obvious Choice have continued to mature their xAPI learning ecosystem, with new technologies designed to send statements to Learning Locker.

To kickstart the xAPI learning and performance ecosystem, Thrive is positioned as an initial activity provider, adding other activity providers to the mix to mature the ecosystem – these include ForgetMeNot and Baseline.

“Learning Locker® will remain central to all Thrive roadmap activity. It is our intention to use the Journeys feature to drive improved levels of personalized learning in corporate environments.”

Results

Through the implementation of Learning Locker and its xAPI capabilities, the learning and performance ecosystem created by Obvious Choice has generated a fundamental shift in the value proposition for Obvious Choice as a vendor, their L&D clients and the very act of learning provided to an organization.

Their connected system of activity providers which sends data traces to Learning Locker moves businesses beyond completion reports and a compliance agenda to a performance-improvement agenda.

Obvious Choice has also found that the use of data has allowed for recommendations and personalization, becoming the basis on which decisions are made about individuals, teams and organizational development.
