The Challenge

In addition to providing qualified practitioners to work in schools or in partnership with council departments, SHS deliver high-quality supervision, training and consultancy to professionals who support families to improve the prospects of vulnerable children and young people in society.

These practitioners need to continually up-skill their professional development. This includes everything from the main foundation principles, values and best practices for building helpful and effective relationships with parents to strategies for intensive support workers dealing with families with multiple and complex needs. SHS needed a platform to deliver online training and to provide access to its digital resource library, which included its Toolkits for professionals working with children and families.

Today’s learners use up to five devices to consume content so SHS’ online training needed to be smart enough to adapt to the technology that they’re using and ensure that they never have to compromise on their user experience.

The Solution

Following a kick-off meeting to establish the goals and requirements for the project, our instructional designer took this brief and some SHS base content in the form of a PowerPoint presentation that had previously been used for face-to-face training. We then created an engaging, interactive piece of e-learning using the Learning Pool Development Methodology throughout the process. Content outline, storyboard, alpha, beta and GOLD stages were carried out before eventual sign off.

To build the module, we used Adapt Learning, our responsive HTML5 framework that allows you to create engaging and flexible content that can be accessed by learners across multiple devices.

Within the module, the content is broken down into two pages and then further segmented into chunks by way of Adapt Builder’s article, block and component building blocks. This is standard for all Adapt modules and allows for a bite-sized, digestible learning process.

The module still maintains a natural flow throughout due to the use of deep-scrolling pages. This is consistent with modern web design and offers a much more engaging experience than the old method of constantly clicking on a ‘Next’ button.

“We are very excited about our future plans to launch our online learning website nationwide.”

The Deployment

As a result, SHS have the ability to train practitioners nationally in a much more cost-effective way and with greater flexibility.

With the expertise of our Graphics and Design team, this module visually captures your attention. The visual content conveys information succinctly and quickly, boosting engagement and making it a great way to say more with less.

SHS provided the colour palette and brand guidelines. The Design team took the logo and branding as a base to work from and produced a striking set of illustrations and images.

We also developed a custom menu based on the SHS theme with animation included to give it that extra ‘wow factor’. As a result of the success of this project, SHS intend to roll the learning website out further in the future.
