Jisc Selects Learning Locker to Power Open Learning Analytics Service
June 29, 2015
Jisc has selected the Open Source Learning Record Store, Learning Locker, as the foundation of a massively scalable Open Learning Analytics service for the UK education sector.
Jisc is a registered charity that champions the use of digital technologies in UK education and research. The Open Learning Analytics project will bring a standardised and scalable service to UK education providers who are starting out their journeys with Learning Analytics.
Learning Pool (formerly HT2 Labs) will work closely with Jisc to ensure that the capabilities of experience API and Learning Locker are effectively embedded into the Open Learning Analytics eco-system.
Dr Ben Betts, CPO of Learning Pool, commented:
“Jisc shares our passion and belief that learning data should be Open, Standard and Student-Centric. The Open Analytics project is a hugely exciting initiative that seeks to provide a one-stop-shop for institutions to use their existing infrastructure as the basis for advanced Learning Analytics. By adopting the xAPI and by using Learning Locker as a foundation of the project, Jisc have given themselves a huge head start in rapidly establishing a basic service that can be built upon for years to come.”
In addition, Learning Pool (formerly HT2 Labs) and Learning Locker partner Webanywhere will be working with Jisc partners to enable a wide range of VLE’s, Library systems and more to adopt the open xAPI standard for sharing learning data.
Conor Gilligan, Webanywhere Head of Workplace says:
“Webanywhere is really excited about partnering with Learning Pool (formerly HT2 Labs) on the Jisc contract. Jisc are truly innovative in their approach to this project, they are really looking to shake up the FE and HE landscape with the Learning Analytics Plan. Given Webanywhere has previous successes with Learning Pool (formerly HT2 Labs) as the only official Moodle and Learning Locker Partner, we are confident we can bring the best possible solution to Jisc.”
