ExtraCare Charitable Trust chooses Learning Pool to create better lives for older people

We’re pleased to announce a new five year partnership for an online learning platform, content and services with the ExtraCare Charitable Trust, a Coventry-based charity and leading not-for-profit developer of housing for the over-55’s.

The ExtraCare Charitable Trust was founded in 1988 and operates 19 retirement village and housing schemes, supporting over 4,000 older people. The charity creates sustainable communities that provide homes older people want, lifestyles they can enjoy and care if needed.

Each ExtraCare village typically has a waiting list of more than 200 potential residents and this demand for places means further construction plans are in place across the Midlands. The associated growth of ExtraCare’s 1,300 employees and a network of over 2,000 volunteers meant that neither the previous Learning Management System (LMS) nor the learning content and courses had the flexibility or level of staff engagement needed to meet ExtraCare’s longer-term ambitions.

ExtraCare engaged with Learning Pool in Autumn 2018, reviewing both our award-winning LMS platform as well as our pre-built Social Care, Compliance and Foundation Skills Catalogues. The ability for the combined solution to integrate with ExtraCare’s existing HR platform, provide an automated process for maintaining users on the new system and for the learning content to be easily extended using Learning Pool’s Adapt Builder were all key decision criteria in their ultimate selection.

“We’re very pleased to be able to work with Learning Pool” says Anita Holden, Learning and Development Manager at The ExtraCare Charitable Trust. “The new solution will ensure we can stay compliant with current legislation whilst increasing the use of online learning to help our staff and volunteers get the most from their work with us. We’re particularly excited about the ability to choose either pre-built learning courses from Learning Pool’s catalogues or create our own using the same authoring tools; it means we’re able to offer consistently engaging content to our learners for the first time.”

“The ExtraCare Charitable Trust are making a real difference to the quality of life for older people in the UK” says Learning Pool’s CEO, Paul McElvaney. “We have a long history of helping not-for-profit organisations with their learning and development needs and we always engage with the best subject matter experts available when building new content for our extensive catalogues. Five years is a long time in our industry and we’re confident that, with our commitment to innovation which includes our recent acquisition of HT2 Labs, we can continue to bring new and valuable learning solutions to ExtraCare during that period and beyond.”
