Money and Pensions Service deliver blended learning program with Learning Pool’s Platform

Learning Pool, the global elearning solutions provider, is thrilled to have partnered with Money and Pensions Service to develop a blended learning strategy by delivering the online elements of its money guidance training.

The Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) is an arms-length body sponsored by the Department for Work and Pensions, working to help individuals get the most from their money and pensions by offering the information and guidance they need to make effective financial decisions.

Adopting a blended learning strategy, MaPS enlisted the help of Learning Pool to build and host an online learning program targeted at ‘Money Guiders’ who, in the course of their work, help customers with money problems that have arisen through life events such as illness or disability, redundancy or bereavement.

Hosted on Learning Pool’s Platform, the Money Guiders blended learning program is aimed at developing the skills, knowledge and competencies of practitioners delivering money guidance, as well as raising its profile and the quality of its delivery.

As part of a blended learning strategy, which includes certified assessment, the online learning is based on the Money Guidance Competency Framework, which was developed alongside practitioners so that it reflects the depth and breadth of what is possible in the money guidance space, as well as defining the capabilities individuals need to deliver it well.

Using Learning Pool’s authoring tool to author its content, the online program is divided into three tiers which cover core foundation skills and technical domains divided into 12 subject areas, including budgeting, borrowing, benefits and pensions. This constitutes over 18 hours of online learning that incorporates ‘talking head’ videos of real practitioners, explainer animations and in-depth interactive learning scenarios.

Fiona Ellis, Sector Skills Strategic Learning Lead at Money and Pensions Service said, Money guidance most often forms a small part of a practitioner’s broader support for customers with varied and complex needs. Many don’t have access to training and professional development opportunities to build the skills and confidence they need for the money guidance ‘slice’ of their role. Learning Pool’s Platformhas helped combat this massively with the blended learning strategy.”

In 2021 MaPS carried out a pilot phase of the blended Money Guiders program to create and test resources, including the online learning elements developed in collaboration with Learning Pool. The level of participation during the pilot phase already indicated high levels of engagement and the content was well-received by both practitioners and partner organizations.

Fiona also said, We are delighted to continue working with Learning Pool in 2022 as the blended learning program plans to launch phase two focusing on strengthening and growing all elements of the program including the online learning. We will develop training linked to the more complex and technical tiers that were not available during the pilot.”
