What Does Elearning Look Like, Beyond the ‘Next’ Button?

The year is 2016. And the question of ‘What “Elearning” is and means’ is still one of the most hotly debated topics in our industry. To some it describes a self-paced, ‘click next’ course. To others it’s anything and everything that you can do deliver content online – others argue that it doesn’t even necessarily have to be online!
Whatever it means to you, it can’t be denied that we’re working in a fast-paced industry where trends and buzzwords come and go almost as often as the seasons change. But one thing that we can be certain of, is that the technology organisations use to support learning will keep evolving as what was once seen as futuristic sci-fi, becomes the norm; with the barriers to entry being broken down – especially the cost ones – all the time.
Keeping up with these changes can be a difficult task, but our new, year-long OLX, ‘Elearning: Beyond The Next Button’, seeks to make this as easy a job as possible for L&D Managers and practitioners alike.
This course will be running throughout 2016 with each month being dedicated to an emerging or current technology that we believe has real potential to positively impact the way that we train, develop and support our people.
Each month will reveal a new level and associated subject and you can access any available content you wish, in any order, once you’ve completed the first ‘Getting Started’ level (which you can do at any point in the year).
In this first level – which is unlocked now – we’re taking a look at some opinions from around the Industry before challenging you to list as many ways that you can think of that technology can be used to help us and the people we’re supporting.
We anticipate that this open sharing of knowledge will highlight some gaps in your knowledge so we’ve provided a route for you to research, share, and in doing so ‘plug’, one of those knowledge gaps. You’ll also be able to experience the Learning Pool Platform’s interoperability with other online platforms if you’re interested in using it in your organisation.
For those of you who are attending the Learning Technologies 2016 Show this could provide a great opportunity for you to take a look at both the exhibition floor and conference tracks to see what is out there that you could share back into this first level.
