Whoo-loves a good book?: Learning Pool releases children’s book in aid of Make-A-Wish

Learning Pool has released a children’s book in support of global charity, Make-A-Wish International.

Learning Pool is thrilled to announce the release of a children’s book: Tall Tales Short Stories. The book is the product of a global story competition and all royalties on the sale of the book (estimated between 20-34% of the sale price) will be donated to Make-A-Wish International, a global charity that creates life-changing wishes for critically ill children.

Just a few months ago, aspiring writers, aged between 7 and 12 years old, were invited to use their imagination to submit a story about a mythical creature. And they did not disappoint! With over 250 entries from all over the world, choosing the ten winners that feature in this book was not easy.

“We were truly blown away by the quality of the stories sent to us and picking the winners was extremely difficult for our judging panel.” Lisa McGeady, Senior Learning Designer at Learning Pool.

The shortlisted stories were presented to a trio of brilliant children’s authors: L.D. Lapinski (The Strangeworlds Travel Agency), Maria Kuzniar (The Ship of Shadows) and Darren Simpson (Scavengers), who selected their very favorites and helped to decide on an overall winner for each age-group category: 7-9 and 10-12.

On World Wish Day (29th April), a day celebrating the wish which inspired the global wish granting organization, Learning Pool wanted to play its part in making a child’s wish come true.

The anthology features a bonus story by a child personally supported by Make-A-Wish Denmark. 11-year-old, Saga from Denmark, says she often feels as clumsy as her protagonist – the eight-legged horse Sleipner from Norse mythology. Saga has contracted the disorder ataxia following a brain hemorrhage.

“We are very proud to be able to grant Saga’s wish to become a writer and so happy that she is featured in this book. Tall Tales Short Stories celebrates the shining stars all around us – children helping children. We believe that a wish-come-true empowers and transforms the lives of anyone who plays a part. Our belief in the power and impact of a wish is what guides us and inspires us to grant the wish of every eligible child.” Luciano Manzo, Make-A-Wish International President and CEO.

Tall Tales Short Stories has been edited and illustrated by the talented team of Learning and Graphic Designers at Learning Pool, each story in the collection having been paired with its own eye-popping artwork. You can order your copy here.

With its stories of sea-dragons, werewolves, unicorns, wood spirits, and… gnomes, it’s the perfect gift for anyone who likes a tall tale. And best of all, it’s all for a good cause.
