With more than 935 stores and over 28,000 employees across Great Britain, Lidl needed a learning solution that reduced the time new shift managers spent away from their roles without compromising on the thoroughness or effectiveness of training.
Classroom workshops were costly, required scheduling in advance, and didn’t easily adapt to the sudden shift to remote working during the pandemic.
The solution: A blended learning approach designed for flexibility and impact
Partnering with Learning Pool, Lidl GB created a bespoke blended learning program combining online modules accessed via in-store tablets with practical, on-the-job activities and guided trainer support.
The program covered essential topics such as cash processes, loss prevention, KPIs, customer service, and more — all designed to guide new shift managers from learning to implementation and evaluation.

- £55,000 saved in evaluation pilot costs
- £715,000 total savings projected across 13 regions
The program was rolled out to over 1,200 learners annually, delivering flexible, engaging training that fits seamlessly into their working day.
