Unlocking transformative learning with a unified approach to content, tech, automation, and AI
In the fast-paced world of L&D, we all know the drill. The search for effective learning strategies that truly move the needle and deliver tangible learning outcomes in a constant. But simply having great content or a slick platform isn't enough. To really make an impact, you need something more—a connected, holistic approach that brings everything together.
That's exactly what we mean by the power of everything, and it's the beating heart of our Strategic Learning Experience Design (SLED).
In this article, Stefan Eger, Senior Learning Experience Architect, dives into how weaving together content, tech, automation, and even cutting-edge AI can totally transform your learning design. Get ready to discover how a unified strategy can unlock incredible effectiveness in your learning programs, making sure every initiative you launch truly delivers…
Hi, I’m Stefan, and even though it’s been a few years since I’ve had that job role, I think I’ll always be a Learning Designer at my core.
I’ve been with Learning Pool for just over eight years now, and in that time, I’ve worn a few different hats. But no matter the job, one thing has stayed the same: my love for designing learning experiences that actually work—that help people grow, solve real problems, and make a difference.
In the early days, my way of achieving this was to work with our customers to build content that grabs attention, keeps it, and gets results. But as Learning Pool grew, I found myself peering over the metaphorical fence into our more tech-based teams, wondering how the content we were building could work best with our platform, with automation, and more recently, with (generative) AI.
And that’s when it clicked.
The magic really happens when we stop treating these things—content, platforms, tools—as separate ingredients and start thinking about them as parts of the same whole. Because when they come together, they create something much more powerful.
That’s what we mean when we talk about Strategic Learning Experience Design (or ‘SLED’ as I’ve been calling it for so long, it’s become a “thing” at Learning Pool). It’s not just a phrase we throw around—it’s the way we approach every project.
We don’t just build great content, or develop impressive tech, or add AI because it’s shiny and new. We bring everything together—intentionally, strategically—to design solutions that are not only unique, but deeply effective, with the data that proves it baked into the design and architecture right from the initial concept.
And frankly, I don’t think there’s another company out there doing it quite like we are. And I say that not just as a proud employee—but as someone who genuinely cares about getting learning right.
What happens when it all comes together?
Let’s talk about the real benefits of the “all-round” solution.
When I say everything working together, I mean content, platform, automation tools, AI features—designed to complement each other, not compete for attention.
Our bespoke content? It wins awards for a reason. It’s grounded in learning science, creatively delivered, and built around your goals.
Our platform? It’s not just a place to host courses. It’s a dynamic learning environment that supports social learning, smart automation, and now, a whole new suite of AI-driven features that integrate with it.
And the way we bring those things together? That’s what sets us apart.
Because when the same team builds your content and configures your platform and designs your AI journeys—everything aligns. Your learning objectives connect directly to your business objectives. You’re not trying to stitch things together from different suppliers or hoping your tech can handle content it wasn’t built for.
It’s one cohesive solution. One team. One direction.
“Isn’t that a bit… much?”
You might be thinking, “Sure, but doesn’t doing everything mean you risk doing everything halfway?”
It’s a valid concern. But for us, it’s actually the opposite.
We’ve grown strategically—adding tools and technologies that naturally extend what we already do well. And we’ve kept the brilliant people behind those products too. So what you get is not a patchwork of acquisitions, but an integrated ecosystem powered by passionate experts who understand learning inside and out.
I’m not a developer and I’m not a data scientist. But with our many years of learning design experience, my colleagues and I know how learning needs to feel, flow, and function in order to achieve the needed outcomes.
That perspective lets us contribute to the product development roadmap in a way that’s directly connected to what learners and organisations tell us they need. And we work in tandem with our technology, data and product experts who constantly surprise and delight us and our customers with new ideas and capabilities that deliver even better solutions. It’s an amazing partnership that works both ways.
What about AI?
Let’s be honest—there’s a lot of noise around AI in learning right now. But we’re not here for the hype. We’re here to use AI in purposeful, meaningful ways.
In 2023, we launched AI Conversations, our first major step into generative AI for learning. It gave learners the chance to practise difficult workplace conversations in a safe, simulated environment.
That opened the door to more innovation:
- AI Coach, which creates a real-time coaching experience tailored to the learner. It delivers workplace coaching at scale, driving employee growth and team success without straining your resources.
- AI Assess, a smarter way to evaluate learner performance and provide deeper feedback. Lets you create smart mastery-focused assessments using scenario questions that are then answered by your learners with open text responses. The answers are then graded by AI against a rigorously tested assessment framework.
- And most recently, personalised AI-driven feedback via our automation tool—so learners get targeted next steps based on how they answer open-ended questions. No more “tick all that apply” quizzes that tell you nothing.
With these tools, we can build learning that responds to learners, not just talks at them. We can build content that provides personalised responses to every learner, use workflows and AI to review and assess their knowledge and learning needs, and then automatically adapt the learning journey on the platform to one that is unique to them. Each individual learner receives uniquely useful content with nothing extraneous.
Show us the results
Of course, it’s easy to talk about how great this model is. But the proof is in the results.
We developed global learning programmes for Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG), Lidl GB, and Amway, working across content and platform to create seamless, impactful solutions.
And it’s not just global organisations. We’ve also helped clients at the very beginning of their learning journey by setting up their first platform, designing core content, and helping them build confidence and capability over time.
Wherever you are in your learning maturity, we meet you there—and help you advance.
Why I love this work
People sometimes ask me why I’ve stayed at Learning Pool so long. And the answer is simple: I get to do work I enjoy, with people I respect, for clients who genuinely benefit from what we deliver.
I’m lucky. I get to help design solutions that solve real challenges, that delight our customers, and that reflect the full power of what Learning Pool can do when it all comes together.
And we’re not standing still. We’re always pushing to do better, be better, and create smarter ways to support learning that really makes a difference.
That’s the power of everything.
