Learning Pool partners with True Athlete Project to offer online training

Learning Pool, the pioneers behind the industry-leading Learning Platform, has partnered with not-for-profit organization, True Athlete Project to offer online training to athletes, coaches and governing bodies.
Over the past few years, Learning Pool has had the opportunity to work with some of the world’s top sporting organizations including The FA. During this journey, we were put in touch with The True Athlete Project and identified an opportunity to give back to sports.
The True Athlete Project (TAP) is a not-for-profit sports charity that works with athletes, coaches and national governing bodies with the aim of re-imagining sport as a training ground for compassion, mindfulness and mental wellbeing.
Despite all the good that sport can achieve for societies across the globe, we all have seen the headlines of how it has also failed to live up to its full potential leading to high rates of drop out, burnout, bullying, anxiety, depression and suffering. Dispelling this attitude, TAP has redefined the idea of an athlete as someone who develops both their mind and body to help others and make the world a better place.
In doing so, TAP has launched a number of initiatives and programs – its athlete mentoring program is the cornerstone of these initiatives and includes work with a number of national governing bodies including British Fencing, coach development, work with local communities and schools and retreats. Recently, TAP team member, former Olympian and Performance Director at Danish Fencing, Laurence Halsted published his first book, ‘Becoming a True Athlete’.
In response to its continued growth, TAP identified a need for an online learning platform to help expand its work to a wider audience. As part of our corporate social responsibility efforts, we stepped in to support Sam Parfitt, Founder and CEO, and the TAP team in meeting this need. Utilizing the Learning Pool Platform and our custom content development services, TAP has now launched its new ‘Becoming a True Athlete’ online training program designed for athletes, coaches and governing bodies. The course consists of multiple reflection pieces and mindfulness exercises, including a three-part breathing routine to help aid stress reduction.
The course consists of over 130 resources including creative reflection exercises, videos and meditations for sport and encompasses five themes: performance; athlete identity and values; mindfulness; social action; nature and connectedness.
