Introduction to Social Prescribing – Free Lesson

Introduction to Social Prescribing

Medication isn’t always the answer

Social prescribing is a term that’s been bubbling up for a few years now but isn’t widely understood. Who is it for? What are the benefits? Who should you go to for more information? These are all valid questions that people often struggle to find the answer to.

This is exactly why we’ve developed this free lesson, ‘Introduction to Social Prescribing’, in partnership with Bogside & Brandywell Forum to bring together all the information you need and to offer answers to these questions. In this lesson, you’ll receive all the same information on social prescribing that social rescribers receive.

The content is engaging with a selection of videos from real people sharing real stories of their experiences with social prescribing.

About the lesson

The main goal of social prescribing is to address the needs of patients, in a person-centered way, with a community-led approach, so that they feel empowered and have more control over their own health and wellbeing.

Social prescribing gives GPs, and some other healthcare professionals, a way to refer patients with social, emotional and practical needs to sources of support within their communities.

In this free lesson, you’ll learn:

  • What social prescribing is
  • Who it benefits
  • Where to go for help
