BMJ Learning engaged with Learning Pool to tackle the issue and we proposed creating a sophisticated script that would allow them to automatically convert every XML course into a new Adapt builder format, with the touch of a button.
This had huge advantages for BMJ Learning over the alternative option of reauthoring each course as it reduced the potential of human error when recreating the material and naturally, saved a considerable amount of time.
To complete the conversion, we conducted a mapping exercise which looked at each type of interaction and built up a set of rules which told the script how to treat that type of content in the new format. Initially we created trial runs with around twenty courses at a time; courses that featured every type of functionality and were in English.
Once these were converted we conducted a QA exercise to test the content and this process flushed out any minor tweaks that were needed in the script or any previously missed errors that already existed in the original content. We then moved on to the multi-language content, ensuring the script worked effectively across all languages.
